Introducing Fulham Chiropractor Robert van Schalkwyk, M.tech.Chiro, DC, CCEP
I was first introduced to chiropractic through my Father. It had helped him with his chronic headaches and fatigue; however, it was only when I sustained a disc injury through martial arts, did I experience the true healing power of Chiropractic.”
“Only after I observed my chiropractor for a number of weeks and after seeing amazing changes, not only in my own life, but other peoples too, did I decide that I wanted to become a chiropractor.”
I completed my Masters Degree in Chiropractic Technology in 1998 at the Department of Chiropractic, Technikon Natal, South Africa. I left with sound training in the science, art and philosophy of Chiropractic. I published my master’s thesis in the J.M.P.T. My course covered all aspects of human sciences, biochemistry, microbiology, x-ray, diagnosis, chiropractic, physiotherapeutic intervention, rehabilitation, massage and wellness care. I completed the C.C.E.P course (UK) further developing my interest in treating sports injuries.
In my everyday practise, I like to combine the chiropractic approach and physiotherapy intervention, with a strong emphasis on postural improvement, rehabilitation (exercises, stretches, core stability, functinal stability), wellness care and home education. My practise philosophy is to help my patients to help themselves. Some therapist only treat the muscular system, some treat the structural or skeletal system and the some therapists claim to treat the nervous system. I believe one cant seperate any one system from another as they are all linked either directly or indirectly. I therefore consider all three when treating. I also consider lifestyle choice, nutrition and thought processing as they too have an effect on our health. Eat better, move better and think better to good health. I have worked as a massage therapist and personal trainer before becoming a Chiropractor.
I have practised successfully at Chelsea and Fulham Chiropractic Centre for over 12 years. I own the Centre together with Simon Finemore. I have experience in treating neck and back pain, sports injuries, motor vehicle related injuries, nerve root irritations, headaches, sciatic-like symptoms, extremity dysfunction and pain, referral of pain, numbness or pins and needles into the arms or legs, sciatic-like symptoms and disc injuries. I have a special interest in sports injuries. I treat patients of all ages, from the new born to the more mature, helping them treat and manage their respective conditions.
My hobbies include golf, gym, martial arts and outdoor life. I am a member of the British Chiropractic Association where I obtained my D.C (Diploma of Chiropractic), College of Chiropractors and European Chiropractic Union.
I am registered with the General Chiropractic Council (No 00680)
